Keep Your Floor Looking New

If you’re looking to make your flooring last, proper maintenance is necessary. Each type of flooring has its own cleaning regime that should be followed in order for your floors to look better than ever before.

Using one cleaning technique on the wrong type of flooring can be disastrous, which is why it’s important to follow these exact floor-care maintenance tips for the different flooring materials in your home.

Hardwood Floors

Keep your hardwood floors looking cleaner for much longer by sweeping regularly and using a wood floor cleaner. These solutions are specifically designed to keep hardwood floors clean. Spray the cleaner onto a dry microfiber cloth and mop the floor with a back and forth motion. You will have to continuously spray the cloth with cleaner if you have a large room. If your floors are extremely dirty, switch out the microfiber cloths throughout the process. Instead of having to get on your hands and knees to clean your hardwood floors, wrap a microfiber cloth around a mop with a flat head.

Carpet

Carpet can be one of the hardest types of flooring to keep clean. You should vacuum on a regular basis with a fresh filter bag each time. This ensures that the vacuum will have maximum airflow and make it much easier to clean. Carpet stain removers are great to use to remove spots of residue that may have appeared on your floor.

A deep shampoo is the ultimate cleaning treatment for carpets. Once you’ve vacuumed the area, use a carpet shampooer to clean the floor with a deep-cleaning detergent. The shampoo is meant to remove any grime that lays beneath the carpet’s surface. Ensure that you start at the corner of the room and make your way towards the door, so you don’t have to step on any wet carpet. After you’ve shampooed, allow your carpet to fully dry by ventilating the room.

Laminate

Laminate flooring requires a little extra maintenance to keep them shining longer. It’s important to wipe up any spills as soon as they happen to prevent any damage from occurring. If you have a pet, their water bowl may be placed on your nice laminate flooring. Instead of waiting for an accident to happen, a trick to use is placing a mat underneath their bowl to protect the flooring.

Sweep as often as you can with a soft-bristle broom to reach the majority of the pet hair and dirt that has taken over your house. A damp mop is suggested when cleaning as less water will escape the mop and end up in the cracks of your floor.
