About Us

The Standard Beginning

While traveling for a paint company in 1954 out of Denver, Colorado, Richard R. "Dick" Myers turned his dream into a reality when he and his partners opened their own Benjamin Moore paint dealership in Yakima, Washington. Standard Paint and Wallpaper, on Yakima Avenue, quickly built a reputation in the community for exceptional personal service. With knowledgeable staff and quality products, the business was recognized by both painters and home owners as the place to go for great help and style.

After Dick, Sr. obtained sole ownership in 1974, his son, Dick Myers, Jr. joined the business. The store soon moved to a much needed, larger facility on 3rd Avenue in downtown Yakima. Floorcoverings and other decorating products were added to the product line in 1980, and the business continued to grow.

In 1986, Dick, Sr. retired, and under Dick, Jr.’s leadership, Standard Paint & Decorating (as it was known at the time) grew in the Yakima area along with the Sunnyside, Tri-Cities, and Bend, Oregon communities. With the addition of The Design Studio in 1988 and its beautiful product displays and talented designers, the decorating side of the business became strong. Standard Paint’s reputation continued to build trust and customer loyalty within the market areas. It was no longer just a paint and wallpaper business—but offered full-service design expertise and a broad product line.

In 2006, Dick, Jr.’s sons, Regan and Craig Myers, joined the Standard Paint & Flooring team to become the third generation of Myers’ owners. The West Valley store in Yakima was soon added along with a store in Wenatchee in 2012.

Today, customers are following the footsteps of their parents and grandparents when they put their trust in Standard Paint & Flooring. Regan, Craig, and Dick along with the entire Standard Paint family still offer quality products and personal service—a standard set by Dick, Sr.

“The thing that keeps people coming back time and time again is that they know exactly who they’ll be dealing with,” says Regan Myers. “It’s about relationships. My grandpa would always tell me, ‘Regan, all you have to do is make friends with your customers,’ and that is still true today.”

With a 68-year reputation built on a high standard (pardon the pun!) of personal service, Standard Paint & Flooring’s six locations continue to deliver on the promise of exceptional quality products and a place where service is still in style.

“There’s an immediate trust when people walk in and see the same friendly, familiar faces,” says Regan. “Our long-time employees are experienced professionals who are always ready to help get the job done.”

We’re proud to be voted the Best Flooring Company, Best Interior Design Store, and Best Paint Store for many years in both the Yakima Valley Business Times and the Yakima Herald Republic.
